A talk with Joe Chicarelli from the SPARS Studio Summit.
Take a listen to his three part slide show here.

We recently modified our Studio 1 custom console and its sidecar by applying That Corporation’s InGenius® differential amplifier IC to each mic/line input module, significantly improving the transient response of all 64 channels.

Collaborating with one of the original console designers Eric Benton, chief tech Mick Higgins also developed and deployed a proprietary additional new circuit for each program module that flattens the high frequency response. This renders a more transparent and airy texture to the very high end.

Both modifications also improve the transient response of the very low frequencies down to 5 Hz.
No compromises were made to the legendary noise floor or distortion characteristics of the console to achieve these results. The custom discrete board was originally installed in 1984. Client reaction to these changes has been overwhelmingly positive.

The ProTools Suites at Sunset Sound underwent a bit of a facelift in December. We added windows to each suite to let the sunshine in! The windows also allow clients to see one another across the intervening foyer/lounge to facilitate visual interaction between control room and overdub areas.

Singer/Songwriter Ryan Adams constructed a lavish two-story project studio & office in one half of our duplex structure adjacent to Studio 3. He fell in love with the space during his Glyn Johns-produced album project in 2011. His indie label PaxAm Records is also headquartered there. We welcome Ryan (and wife Mandy Moore) to the Sunset family!
